Safer Internet Day is one of the initiatives of the EU and Internet Security Foundation (Insef) which is interested in internet issues. More than 100 nations celebrates this initiative around the world.
In the UAE, Khalifa Empowerment Program – Aqdar is the official representative to celebrate the Safer Internet Day, Where the program organizes a number of activities to celebrate the event which takes place in February in conjunction with many ministries, federal and local authorities and private sector establishments.
The main objective of the Safer Internet Day is to increase the awareness level about the challenges and issues that the users may encounter while using the internet, especially young users, such as sexual harassment. Violation of privacy, cybercrimes and legal consequences of using the internet carelessly and how to develop appropriate ethical and behavioral standards and systems to use this tool.
A dedicated website for this event as well is launched to promote the safe and responsible use of the internet, and provide a reference for all community sectors on how to use the internet optimally and introduce to parents, youth and teacher the common risks they may encounter while using the internet and how to respond to it.
